15 Super Fun Snow Day Activities
Personally, I love mixing indoor and outdoor snow day activities. That way, I get to enjoy the outdoors and take time out for a bit of rest and relaxation, too. So, consider doing both if you feel the need to embrace your inner child and allow the grown-up you to take a much-needed break.
That said, here are some of the best activities for snow days to try!
Build a Snowman
Can you really have a snow day without building a snowman? Hopefully, you will have at least one decent snowfall, and you will have enough snow to get outside and build a snowman.
It doesn’t have to be a snowman, though. You can create all types of snow sculptures, like animals or something else. I had a neighbor who built a snow cupcake! The point is to be creative and have fun doing it.
Go Tubing or Sledding
This was one of my favorite snow day activities growing up. We lived on a hill, which made it much easier. Tubing and sledding are a great way to spend the afternoon enjoying the snow. If you don’t get enough snow, you can always head to a ski resort that has tubing during the winter months.
Make Snow Cream
If you are craving a cool tasty treat, you should make snow cream one of your activities for the snow day. This is where you use snow to make a type of ice cream for dessert. However, make sure you don’t eat yellow snow…always find clean snow to use for your treat.

Head Out for a Winter Scavenger Hunt
Bundle up and head outside for a fun winter scavenger hunt. I did a spring scavenger hunt with my nephew, and we had a great time. You can find all sorts of winter scavenger hunt ideas on Pinterest, or you can grab this free winter scavenger hunt printable over at kcedventures.com.
This activity will make your snow day adventurous, and you can enjoy it with your spouse, kids, or friends.
Bring the Snow Inside
So, when I was a kid, my asthma was so bad I couldn’t be out in the cold. One year, my dad brought snow inside and put it in the sink and bathtub for me to play with, and it was awesome! I even broke out my Barbie dolls to have a ski resort experience in the snow—😂
So, if you have kids or perhaps babysit as a side hustle, bringing the snow inside can be a fun way to enjoy a snow day without being out in the cold.
Cozy Up With a Good Book
What better way to spend a snow day than curling up beneath a cozy blanket with a good book? I love reading books about Hygge (the Danish lifestyle) that teach you how to enjoy the little things and encourage you to embrace coziness and contentment.
Whether you love a sweet romance novel or want to learn more about simplifying your life, take the time to slow down the next snow day you have and indulge in a great book.
Make Snow Dough
Snow dough is like stretchy Play-Doh but is winter-themed and can be made at home. It can be a fun indoor snow day activity to try with the little ones or if you want to embrace your inner child. Check out Kim’s simple snow dough recipe at thebestideasforkids.com to learn how to make it.

Color the Afternoon Away
Did you know that coloring actually has health benefits? In fact, the Mayo Clinic Health System states that coloring can promote mindfulness and relieve stress! There are all sorts of coloring books to pick from for kids and adults. If you adore animals and want to learn more about Hygge, then you should grab a copy of the Simplicity & Hygge coloring book!
So, break out those crayons and color your cares away for a relaxing snow day activity.

Bake Bread
Who doesn’t love the smell and taste of freshly baked bread? This is one of the best snow day activities because you can heat your home while making something delicious to eat.
You can make all sorts of different types of bread, and you can even give it some pizzazz and make decorative bread. Check out YouTube for tutorials on making beautiful bread!
Write a Winter Short Story
Are you a writer or perhaps an inspiring writer who has been wanting to carve out time to pen a perfect story? Take advantage of the next snow day to write a winter short story! It can be a flash fiction story or even the start of a novel.

Feed and Watch the Wildlife
If you are an animal lover like me, you should put out food and water to attract wildlife to your yard. Snow days are the perfect opportunity to watch your favorite feathered friends and critters enjoy their favorite snacks.
In the past few years, I have befriended some sweet squirrels, chipmunks, and various birds by setting out seeds and nuts in the yard.
Research the type of wildlife native to your area so you can put out the correct food for them.
Have a Spa Day
Most people don’t get much time to unwind these days. That’s why you may want to make your snow day activities include some self-care. If you feel like you need some rest and relaxation, you should treat yourself to a spa day.
Take a hot soak in the tub, listen to some relaxing tunes, and melt your stress away.
You can order a nice spa basket from Amazon to have everything you need to pamper yourself.
