It’s been my goal to become a minimalist for a while now. Though I’m closer than I was, I still have quite a bit to go. Plus, I need to learn new habits to keep my home tidy so it’s not such a stressful environment. I've decided to have a decluttering sale to help me attain my goal and bring in some extra cash.

If you’re searching for a way to put some extra money in your pocket and get rid of stuff you no longer need, then you should have a decluttering sale too! It’s the perfect way to unload unwanted items while boosting your bank account.

4 Ways to Have a Decluttering Sale

There are a few different ways you can tackle this task. Whether you want to get it all done at once or sell items as you go is up to you. Here are some easy ways to sell your clutter:

  1. Have a Decluttering Yard Sale

A yard sale is one of the quickest ways to clear your clutter and make some cash. Go through your home room by room and put everything you want to sell in boxes. Get the stuff gathered first and price it later. That way, the process is faster. Remember, yard sale prices need to be cheap. Otherwise, you will have a hard time selling it.

Typically, people price items at 10% of retail price. So, if something is $10 new, you price it at $1. It’s not much, but you can sell items fast and get rid of stuff quickly. If you have valuable items, then you can sell them online on sites such as Etsy or eBay and get much more money.

2. Create a Bulk Listing and Sell It

Another option is to put everything out for display, take pictures, and list it on Facebook Marketplace or even Craigslist. You can sell items in lots (multiple items that are similar, such as clothing or kitchen appliances) or sell them separately, but have it all listed in a single post. That can save you time from listing items individually.

3. Have a Live Auction on Whatnot or Poshmark

This one can be a lot of fun, but it takes time to get approved to have live auctions on these sites. However, if you are interested in flipping items for profit or have high-end items or clothing, then you may want to check out being a Whatnot or Poshmark seller anyway.

Live auctions allow you to go live on camera and show the items you are selling. You can set a minimum price and run the auction; customers will bid on the items and purchase them. It’s fun and profitable! Use these links if you decide to try out selling on Whatnot or Poshmark:

4. Sell Items Online

If you want to get the most bang for your buck and have the time, then you should try selling your items online separately. This is the way to go if you have items that are in really good condition and worth more than simply selling at a yard sale.

Here are some popular platforms you can sell on:

Etsy: You can sell handmade items, vintage items, craft supplies, and more.

eBay: An excellent option to sell random items from around the house, including electronics, game systems, collectibles, and more.

OfferUp: A great platform for selling items locally. (You can also ship items if you decide to.)

Facebook Marketplace: You can sell locally or ship items on the Marketplace. It’s one of the largest social media platforms, so it helps people find your items fast.

Of course, this takes much longer, and you will have to store the stuff until you sell it. So, weigh this option carefully. If you need the space or are stressed because you are overwhelmed with too much stuff, you may want to try other methods to get rid of it faster.

Have a Decluttering Sale and Simplify Your Home!

Trying to organize when you have too much stuff makes it difficult and nearly impossible. You spend more time moving items around and trying to find spots to fit things you may not even use anymore. So, why not have a decluttering sale, put cash in your pocket, and make tidying your home a breeze?
